About our Broiler (Meat) Chickens
** We will we not be raising meat birds/broilers in 2024 **
Our meat bird order is placed once a year in the early Spring, and we raise only one batch a year.
We raise a certain number of broiler chickens every summer, as "pastured poultry". Last summer (2021) we raised a limited number of a new breed of meat birds, Berg Grazers. They were ready in the autumn after being raised on grass all spring and summer. Our poultry are raised without any antibiotics or animal by-products (and all chickens raised in Canada are raised without added hormones). As of 2021, the price for a whole chicken is $5.50/lb. They average 3-6 lbs each, and we raise both males and females so sizes vary. Let us know if you prefer larger or smaller birds, please.
The chicks arrive as day-olds in the mail and are raised in our calving barn until they are old enough and large enough (about a month and a half) to roam freely and safely around our farmyard.
